Tetiana Kovalchuk: Ministry of Internal Affairs plans to scale Polina project throughout Ukraine

The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs said that the Ministry of Internal Affairs continues its systematic work on the implementation of the Polina project to combat domestic violence throughout Ukraine. She said this during a meeting with representatives of the Office of the OSCE Project Coordinator in Ukraine.

The participants of the meeting noted the joint successes of the long-term cooperation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs with the OSCE, in particular the support of the cyber police, the department for combating crimes related to trafficking in human beings, and the patrol police.

In turn, representatives of the OSCE Project Coordinator shared the plans for the implementation of projects for the current year and confirmed their readiness to participate in the implementation of the Strategy for the development of the organs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs system.

The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs said that the Ministry of Internal Affairs continues its systematic work on the implementation of the Polina project to combat domestic violence throughout Ukraine.

“We have been able to criminalize the article about domestic violence and that is very important to us. But in the near future, we hope that the Polina project will work throughout Ukraine. Domestic violence is a crime. And he should be punished,” Tatiana Kovalchuk said.

She stressed the need to bring Ukrainian terminology into line with international law, both in matters of combating domestic violence and gender issues.

Tatiana Kovalchuk thanked the international partners for their consistent support and noted that there are many joint projects ahead, which will be launched in the near future.

In turn, the National Head of the Human Security Program Lilia Hrudko stressed that this year the OSCE, together with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, plan to launch a large-scale budget project aimed, among other things, at building the capacity of the National Police in the fight against domestic violence, the fight against human trafficking and cyber crime, as well as the training of the teaching staff of educational institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for teaching the course “Women.Peace. Security”.
