This was stated by the Deputy Minister of the Interior on April 13 during a meeting of the working group.

“We are faced with a not simple, but important task to develop a single terminology for all normative legal acts in the Criminal and Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, as well as in the law of Ukraine “On Prevention and Countering Domestic Violence Relating to Gender Violence”, - said Tatiana Kovalchuk.

Representatives of the Ministry of Social Policy, the Ministry of Justice, the National Police of Ukraine, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Health were involved in the development of the terminology. Also EUAM, OSCE, UN Women, NGO “La Strada-Ukraine”, Ukrainian Association of Law Enforcement Workers and Gender Adviser.

The Deputy Minister stressed that Ukrainian terminology should be brought into line with international law in the near future.

Earlier, Tatiana Kovalchuk said that the Ministry of Internal Affairs is working on the development of an effective mechanism for accounting for cases of domestic violence.

“Domestic violence is a rather latent phenomenon. This problem is acute not only in Ukraine, but also all over the world. According to UN statistics, one in three women in the world suffers from physical or sexual violence. People are not used to talking about it openly. The topic is in the category “taboo”. Because of this, we do not know the real numbers, we cannot keep statistics accurately. Today we are working to develop an effective mechanism that would allow keeping records of such cases,” she said.
