On the basis of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, a platform should be created that would become the center of the strategic vision of practical implementation of equal opportunities for women and men working in the law enforcement system. This was announced today, November 16, by Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Tetiana Kovalchuk with representatives of UN Women.

During the meeting, they discussed the directions of cooperation in the next, 2019 year. In particular, the Deputy Minister stressed the need to create a strategic communication plan for the development of gender equality in the law enforcement system.

“Gender equality is the key to the development of society in general and the bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in particular. In 2018, we implemented many important projects on the implementation of the principles of gender policy. But this is not enough. Next year, 2019, we need to do even more. It is necessary to develop a step-by-step plan for the implementation of the policy of ensuring equality of women and men in the system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. At the same time, it is important that the developed strategy contains practical detailed steps for the implementation of these issues,” said Tetiana Kovalchuk.

She also stressed that for the successful implementation of such an action plan, a broad information campaign, the involvement of young people and the education of leaders who could further promote the value of equal opportunities for women and men is necessary.

“In addition to the practical plan, we have to be sure that people understand what gender politics is, because a person is successful when he or she is thoroughly versed in the issues that need to be talked about,” added Tetiana Kovalchuk.

For her part, the head of the UN Women office in Ukraine Anastasia Divinska assured that the organization will continue to provide expert support to the Ministry of Internal Affairs through the work of national consultants on gender equality issues.

“We are ready to support your plans to create a communication strategy for the development of gender policy in the system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. We are ready to work with the personnel of the subordinate bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. I am proud of our cooperation”, — Anastasia Divinska
