Sergey Yarovyi: In the system of internal affairs bodies, women stand shoulder to shoulder with men
This was announced by First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Serhiy Yarovyi today, March 7, during the meeting of the President of Ukraine with women — representatives of law enforcement agencies who participated or participate in repelling aggression in the East of our country.
The President noted that the Ukrainian woman has always been considered the keeper of the hearth. At the same time, Ukrainian citizens have always been active participants in the life of their native state.
“There has never been a question of equality between women and men in Ukraine. This is how the Ukrainian woman put herself. She succeeded, and we fully support it. Ukrainian woman participates in social, political, public life. We appreciate it very much,” Petro Poroshenko stressed.
He noted that Ukrainian women did not stand aside even after Russia's aggression against our state and presented state awards for impeccable service to women from the power structures. Among them are two employees of the State Border Service — Lieutenant Colonel Irina Burtseva and Senior Ensign Galina Gorzhulyan, policemen Sofia Shaposhnik and Yevhenia Loschenko, as well as military National Guards — Sergeant Oksana Romanova and Senior Ensign Elena Maltseva.
The story of these women is amazing. Senior police lieutenant Evgenia Loschenko, who provided first aid to wounded servicemen and transported the wounded to medical facilities in the city of Krasnogorovka.
Another is police lieutenant Sofia Shaposhnik. Since the beginning of hostilities in the territory of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, she, as a volunteer, personally participated in the selection of persons involved in the protection of the borders of the Dnipropetrovsk region in order to prevent the penetration of representatives of terrorist groups. She was directly on duty and worked on organizing the work of checkpoints on the territory of Dnipropetrovsk region, ensuring their functioning. Provided assistance to migrants from the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
“In the system of internal affairs bodies, women stand shoulder to shoulder with men. Implementation of the principle of gender equality in the bodies of the internal affairs system is one of the priorities of the Ministry. The number of women in the bodies and units of the civil protection service is more than 50 thousand,” the First Deputy Minister stressed.
He also noted that about 8 thousand women work in the State Emergency Service. In the State Border Guard there are 11 thousand, of which 13% are officers. In the structure of the National Police there are more than 30 thousand women, and in the National Guard - more than 4 thousand.
“Nevertheless, we continue to develop the direction of ensuring gender equality and equal access to opportunities in the bodies of the internal affairs system,” Serhiy Yarovyi assured.
