Khmelnytskyi Oblast: Group of persons detained for extortion of funds and inclination to drug trafficking
Operatives of the Directorate of Strategic Investigations in Khmelnytsky region, investigators of the police of the region, employees of the Drug Crime Control Department under the procedural guidance of the Prosecutor's Office of the Khmelnytsky region and the force support of the special unit KORD were exposed and detained during the next extortion of funds of the suspects in the commission of a criminal offense.
It was established that local residents, under the leadership of the so-called criminal authority, tried to incline a citizen to drug trafficking and demanded from him a share of possible profits, or retreats for a quiet life.
The latter is on state replacement supportive therapy for drug addicts and legally obtained narcotic drugs for personal use. The defendants tried to incline the citizen to transfer part of the drug to them. In addition, the citizen had to engage in drug trafficking among the local population and pay 10 percent in favor of the so-called “commune”. In case of refusal, the citizen had to pay $2,000 in restitution.
On Friday, June 19, police officers detained members of the criminal group and conducted a number of sanctioned searches. During the search, psychotropic substances were found, as well as debt receipts.
The persons involved in the case were informed of the suspicion of committing the offenses provided for in Part 2 of Art. 189 (Requisition) and Part 2 of Art. 308 (Abduction, appropriation, extortion of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances or their analogues or their possession by fraud or abuse of office) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
By a court decision, the suspect chose a preventive measure in the form of detention.
