Handbook “Barrierlessness”

Handbook “Barrierlessness” is a unique guide that is a guide to correct communication and includes rules of communication and barrier-free language.

Handbook “Barrierlessness” was created on the initiative of the First Lady of Ukraine Elena Zelenska. The editor of the directory is Tatiana Kasyan — journalist, author of the book “What they are silent about”.

Handbook “Barrierlessness” consists of five sections “Components of Barrierlessness”, “Ethics of Interaction”, “Dictionary”, “Barrier-free Calendar”, “In Wartime”.

The “Components of Barrierlessness” section contains information on the basic concepts of barrierlessness, namely: equality, diversity, tolerance, accessibility, stereotyping, multiple discrimination, gender equality, disability, etc.

The section “Ethics of Interaction” includes information on how to properly approach a person with hearing impairment, how to explain to a child what a disability is, how to build communication with people whose loved ones live with mental disorders, etc.

The Dictionary section is filled with definitions that are correct to use in relation to different people, as well as explanations of why certain words are incorrect and create discriminatory precedents.

The Barrier-free Calendar section contains information on commemorative dates and special days for society related to inclusion and equality.

The section “In Wartime” contains advice and briefings for families with children, the elderly and their loved ones, people with disabilities who are affected by war.
