The Ministry of Internal Affairs held a coordination meeting on combating domestic violence
Deputy Minister Kateryna Pavlichenko and Deputy Minister Tetiana Kovalchuk discussed with international partners the issue of further cooperation in the prevention and fight against domestic violence.
Deputy Minister Ekaterina Pavlichenko stressed that thanks to joint and consolidated work with international partners, significant results were achieved in the fight against domestic violence.
“First of all, we have improved the existing response mechanisms and are carrying out various measures that are aimed at raising the level of awareness of our citizens. When formulating policy in the field of combating domestic violence, we outlined several key points. First of all, any manifestations of violence are unacceptable. Important attention is paid to preventive measures. There must be an unknowable and objective investigation behind every fact of domestic violence. And we also strive to unite the efforts of all partners,” she said.
Ekaterina Pavlichenko thanked all international partners who have been involved in the important direction of combating domestic violence for many years.
Deputy Minister Tetiana Kovalchuk noted that Ukraine makes a great contribution to building common security and is ready to work on its own mistakes.
“I am happy to see our partners helping us build a safe environment for our citizens. I am convinced that our state makes a great contribution to the development of common security. When we talk about combating domestic violence, we are talking about those changes that we have been able to achieve during this period. The phenomena of domestic violence reach the national level. And our task is that every person, regardless of age and gender, is fully aware and knows how to protect themselves and their relatives from domestic violence. Today we are implementing many international projects. And we are also working to eliminate the shortcomings that arose as a result of the work,” the Deputy Minister stressed.
Tatiana Kovalchuk urged those present to focus on the best experience of international partners.
The head of the Department of Preventive Activities of the National Police Igor Babich stressed that the National Police is expanding the activities of mobile groups to combat domestic violence.
“I would like to thank the Canadian police mission for the training they conducted for our specialists. We understand that we must expand the activities of law enforcement precisely in the fight against domestic violence. Therefore, more than 50 mobile groups will work in different cities. They will deploy their activities in small settlements,” he added.
Igor Babich noted that last year alone the police received 142 thousand appeals for facts of domestic violence.
First Deputy Chief of the Patrol Police Department Oleksiy Biloshitsky noted that in Ukraine there are specific features of the fight against such a shameful phenomenon as domestic violence.
“The patrol police is the unit that is one of the first to respond to calls about domestic violence. And I confidently state, despite the fact that last year the legislation changed and the police now have real levers of influence on the domestic abuser, there are still a number of unsolved problems. Therefore, we need a consolidated position of both the Ukrainian side and international partners, who have already managed to introduce successful practices in this matter,” he noted.
Recall that the police are activating the work of all units to combat domestic violence.
