Tetiana Kovalchuk took part in the sixth meeting of the EU-Ukraine Association Committee
On November 13, the sixth meeting of the Association Committee between Ukraine and the EU was held in the format of a video conference, attended by Deputy Minister Tetiana Kovalchuk.
The meeting was opened by O. Stefanishina, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine, who stressed that Ukraine supports common European values, such as democracy and the rule of law, and will make efforts to ensure the proper functioning of institutions.
Tatiana Kovalchuk informed the participants about the results of the reform of the civil security sector, highlighting the main achievements of 2020, in particular the development of a unified security and civil protection system, the approval of the Strategy for Combating Organized Crime, and the simplification and digitalization of services provided to citizens by the bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. “We are building a system that works for citizens, and the roadmap of our transformations is the Association Agreement. The people-centric approach is the basis for the development of the security sector according to the new National Security Strategy, and the full implementation of the Association Agreement is for the first time identified as one of its tasks,” the Deputy Minister noted.
The parties positively appreciated the cooperation with the EU Advisory Mission to Ukraine. In particular, emphasis was placed on the development of the regional dimension of cooperation
The parties have demonstrated a high level of cooperation in the area of justice, freedom and security, in particular using the tools of the European Police Office and the EU Agency for the Training of Law Enforcement Officers CEPOL, with which an agreement was concluded earlier this year.
Tetiana Kovalchuk also presented the vision of the Ministry of Internal Affairs on the preparation and implementation of a new format of cooperation between Ukraine and the EU in the field of cybersecurity and proposed to include the issue of human security in cyberspace on the agenda of the cyber dialogue.
It was also stressed the interest of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to develop cooperation with the European Agency for the Prevention of Abuse and Fraud. In this regard, the position of the EU side is expected on readiness for the conclusion of administrative agreements, as well as on updating the Annex to the Association Agreement, which should serve as a starting point for the improvement of national legislation.
In general, the sixth meeting of the Committee provided an opportunity for the parties to summarize the results of the 22nd EU-Ukraine Summit and to begin preparations for their implementation, as well as to discuss expectations from the Association Council meeting scheduled for December.
