Tetiana Kovalchuk took part in the plenary session of the OSCE Security Cooperation Forum
On May 20, Deputy Minister Tetiana Kovalchuk took part in the plenary session of the OSCE Security Cooperation Forum on the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 “Women, Peace and Security”.
The Forum is an OSCE Directing Body, at whose plenary meetings OSCE States take decisions on the implementation of confidence-building and security-building measures in the Organization's region, arms control and disarmament in the field of conventional armed forces, and exchange of information between States Parties women in political-military aspects of security.
Ukraine is chairing this forum for the first time, and for the first time in the history of the OSCE, the chairmanship takes place online due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Deputy Minister shared with the participants of the forum, which included delegations from more than 60 OSCE and partner countries, information on measures taken at national and ministerial level to implement the UN Security Council Resolution, in particular aimed at ensuring gender equality and equal access for women to political participation Processes.
“Gender policy today has become one of our priorities and not only within the framework of the implementation of the National Action Plan of Ukraine on the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 “Women, Peace, Security”, - the Deputy Minister noted.
Tatiana Kovalchuk also stressed that the ongoing armed conflict and the associated flows of internally displaced persons are creating new challenges, such as gender-based violence, multiple discrimination against vulnerable categories of the population, lack of opportunities for their decent employment.
The participants of the meeting noted significant progress in the implementation of the UN Security Council resolution in the 20 years since its adoption, while agreeing on the need to take further practical steps. OSCE President's Special Representative on Gender Issues Melanie Vervir noted Ukraine's efforts and stressed that Ukraine was among the first countries to adopt a national action plan and integrate gender equality issues at all levels.
