This was announced today, March 16, by Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Tatyana Kovalchuk during a meeting with the head of the NATO Delegation to Ukraine Alexander Vinnikov.

“Today, the Ministry of Internal Affairs is on the path of reforming and implementing the best European practices in the state system. We strive to make this process as inclusive and transparent as possible, inviting not only representatives of the internal affairs system, but also international partners and representatives of civil society. Everyone understands that the transformation of the law enforcement system of Ukraine in accordance with the practices of NATO member states is an important task of the Ministry of Internal Affairs,” the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs stressed.

She noted that within the framework of the Ukraine-NATO Partnership Goals, the bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs system have many obligations, work on which does not stop. One of these goals is the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 “Women, Peace, Security”.

“NATO experts' support for the implementation of gender-neutral policies in the system of internal affairs bodies is invaluable. However, we understand that there is still a lot of work ahead, including the development of a gender approach in the education system of all higher educational institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs,” added Tetiana Kovalchuk.

Head of the NATO Delegation Alexander Vinnikov stressed the importance of the Ministry's role as a coordinator of joint processes for achieving the Partnership Goals so that the State Border Service, the National Guard, the State Emergency Service and the National Police can fully use the cooperation and support opportunities provided by NATO in the national security sector.

“The NATO Liaison Office is currently working on the implementation of the Professional Development Programme for the bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs,” he added.

It should be recalled that the Association of Law Enforcement Representatives has started working in Ukraine, which will become a platform where women law enforcement officers can develop their leadership skills, support each other, as well as promote the implementation of gender-sensitive policies and practices in the relevant structures.
