The event was held on November 12 at the Main Directorate of the National Police in Kharkiv Oblast with the participation of the head leadership, heads of territorial and structural police units, as well as heads of personnel support units.

During a working meeting with police officers, the adviser to the minister focused on the key issues of integrating the gender approach in the system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. As Victoria Arnautova noted, historically, humanity began to make small steps towards gender equality only at the beginning of the twentieth century.

“To date, there are many myths that are actively used in hybrid warfare, international experience shows that in all civilized countries women and men have the same opportunity to earn military titles of all levels and lead law enforcement structures. In turn, the state and society must create equal conditions for men and women who want to develop in their direction and achieve self-realization. Based on research data, such equality gives positive results: reduction of conflict risks, economic development, reduction of mortality, etc.,” said Victoria Arnautova.

During the meeting, the main concepts of gender theory were considered, in particular, the concepts: gender, gender, stereotypes, professional segregation, gender inequality, discrimination, etc.

In addition, the Counsellor of the Minister familiarized with international norms and national regulations on ensuring gender parity, as well as considered Ukraine's place in the world ranking according to the Global Gender Gap Index.

Among the main directions of gender integration in the Ministry of Internal Affairs were noted the improvement of the regulatory and legal framework in the sphere of ensuring equal rights and opportunities of women and men, training of the personnel of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the formation of gender competence, introduction of gender approach in the personnel policy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, consideration of gender aspects in peacekeeping activity.

The head of the regional police chief Valeriy Sokurenko assured that the units of the Kharkiv police clearly adhere to international standards and modern approaches in the implementation of gender policy.

“The GUNP in Kharkiv region takes all necessary measures to ensure equality of rights and opportunities for women and men. Today, almost 30 percent of women serve in our team, including in leadership positions. We understand the importance of this issue and will continue training staff to improve gender competence,” Valeriy Sokurenko stressed.
