The Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Secretariat of the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights strengthen cooperation on the observance of citizens' rights in the activities of law enforcement agencies
Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Kateryna Pavlichenko held a working meeting with representatives of the Secretariat of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Commissioner for Human Rights, with the participation of the National Police, the State Migration Service and the State Border Service.
During the meeting, the issue of implementation of recommendations provided by the Secretariat of the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights following the results of monitoring visits to “places of non-freedom” of the bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs was discussed.
“For us, the results of monitoring visits are important. We will work to eliminate the identified shortcomings and prevent them in the future. We must minimize violations of human rights in the activities of the bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs”, - said Kateryna Pavlichenko
In addition, the Deputy Minister initiated regular meetings with representatives of the Secretariat of the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, if necessary, with the involvement of other ministries and departments in order to effectively resolve those problematic issues requiring legislative settlement.
“Holding regular meetings will allow us to discuss on an ongoing basis how best to implement the recommendations that come to us, and, we hope, it will help us as soon as possible to introduce certain changes that will allow to eliminate shortcomings, in particular, regarding the observance of the rights of the detained person,” - said Kateryna Pavlichenko.
In turn, Representatives of the Secretariat of the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights supported this initiative and drew attention to the need to build effective communication between the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Secretariat, as well as to strengthen cooperation in this direction.
