Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Tetiana Kovalchuk and Kateryna Pavlichenko held a working meeting with First Deputy Director of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights Katazhyna Gardaphadze and Coordinator of Citizens' Projects society in Ukraine by Irina Sukhinina.

The main topic of the meeting was to discuss the issue of combating manifestations of discrimination, in particular towards representatives of the Roma national minority, interaction with authorities, the public on these issues, as well as directions of further cooperation.

Tetiana Kovalchuk informed the participants of the meeting about the achievements of the working group on law enforcement and migration activities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which she heads, namely the development of joint measures to prevent and prevent illegal actions against representatives of the Roma national minority.

In addition, the Deputy Minister noted that the working group developed an algorithm for interaction (joint actions) of state authorities, local self-government bodies, representatives of Roma public organizations in case of detection of spontaneous settlements of the Roma national minorities. development of preventive measures to prevent offenses.

“In order to establish communication between the Roma community and representatives of local self-government, mobile groups are being created, which include representatives of local authorities, public organizations, executive authorities and law enforcement agencies,” Tatiana Kovalchuk emphasized.

The Deputy Minister noted that all these measures contributed to the fact that in 2019 it was possible to minimize offenses against representatives of the Roma national minority.

In addition, priority areas of cooperation between the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the OSCE ODIHR were discussed during the meeting.

In particular, Deputy Minister Kateryna Pavlichenko stressed the possibility of organizing trainings for police officers who constantly work in places where representatives of the Roma national minority gather.

In turn, First Deputy Director of the OSCE ODIHR Katazhyna Gardaphadze expressed readiness to provide comprehensive expert assistance from the Bureau in the framework of the continuation of the Ministry's implementation of effective mechanisms to overcome the existing challenges to conflicts on ethnic grounds and to carry out preventive measures Dive.
