This was stated by Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Ekaterina Pavlichenko during the special “Stop. You are violence”.

“The problem of domestic violence exists in our society and it is a bitter truth. However, we are grateful to those men and women who do not hesitate to talk about it and declare it. You are breaking the vicious circle of domestic violence. During the pandemic, those problems that had existed for a long time were exposed. If we compare with the number of domestic violence calls with last year, then we do record an increase in the number of calls and statements. But, at the same time, we still associate the growth of such messages with the information campaign that is taking place in our country,” she said.

Kateryna Pavlichenko explained that more people are contacting hotlines, who are looking for a way out of the situation that has developed at home. If a person calls the police with a report of domestic violence, then most often we are talking about critical cases when the help of law enforcement is already needed.

“However, the police pay considerable attention to preventive activities. This is a very important component of preventing this problem. If the police record cases of violence, now the police have such a mechanism as an urgent prohibition order. This is a new tool, but very effective. He is taken out by the police directly at the scene of the accident. It can last up to 10 days. For failure to comply with this provision comes administrative responsibility. The restraining order is issued by the court. This longer ban, from 1 to 6 months, can be extended up to 1 year. Its failure to comply is already punishable by the Criminal Code,” the deputy minister noted.

Recall, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the NPU have launched a new stage of the information campaign to combat domestic violence.
