In Kharkiv region gang members will be tried for armed attacks on citizens
Eight defendants are in custody. The activities of the criminal group were neutralized by the police in September 2022.
Operatives of the Directorate of Strategic Investigations in Kharkiv Oblast and investigators of the Investigative Department of the Regional Police established that the gang was organized by a 45-year-old Kharkiv citizen who previously worked in law enforcement agencies.
The group “specialized” in armed attacks on citizens and homes. The defendants accompanied their activities with intimidation with weapons, used violence and threats of physical abuse to the victims in order to obtain money and valuable property.
In 2022, police detained gang members after a robbery attack. Law enforcement officers seized a considerable arsenal of weapons, ammunition and tactical equipment with the symbols of the law enforcement agency.
In the course of further activities, the operatives and investigators managed to collect evidence of the involvement of the defendants in banditry. So in March 2023, on the basis of a qualitative evidence base, eight people received new suspicions under Art. 257 (banditry) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
At the moment, the indictment against eight persons is referred to the court.
Exposure and documentation activities were carried out with employees of the SBU regional department. Procedural guidance in criminal proceedings was carried out by Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office.
