Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Kateryna Pavlichenko told about the essence of the project “Safe Childhood” and the expected effect of its implementation on the “Breakfast with 1+1” program today, September 21.

Since the beginning of 2021, almost 3 thousand criminal offenses committed either by children or with their participation have been registered. Just as many crimes against the children themselves.

“The Ministry of the Interior focuses on the theme of a safe environment for children. “Safe School” is one of the components of the large-scale project “Safe Childhood”, which was recently presented by Minister Denis Monastyrsky. The project is aimed at creating a safe environment for children, protecting their rights and legitimate interests,” said Kateryna Pavlichenko.

According to her, the Ministry of Internal Affairs plans to strengthen and increase the police presence in schools.

“Together with the Ministry of Education and Science, we are currently working on the “Safety Educator” project. These will not be police officers, but educators who will undergo appropriate selection and training on the basis of educational institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs system. They will understand the specifics of working with children, navigate in those problems that exist today, including in the legislative plane, and also focus on international practices,” said Ekaterina Pavlichenko.

Security educators will be constantly in schools and will become a link between police officers and parents, children, and school administration. If there is information that needs to be responded to, they will pass it on to the police and work closely with law enforcement to create a safe environment in the school.

“Our international UNICEF partners are involved in this project. At the moment, we are already developing a thematic plan on which we will train safety educators. The desire and ability to work with children is one of the key aspects for such educators. If these are small schools located nearby, then there can be one security educator for several schools,” said the deputy interior minister.

Recall that from September 1 to 10, almost 200 school police officers in 37 cities of the country conducted interactive training for schoolchildren within the framework of the All-Ukrainian action of the Ministry of Internal Affairs “Knowledge Day”.

Also in the educational institutions of the country was held an all-Ukrainian information and preventive action “Day with a policeman and a rescuer”. Law enforcement officers and emergency responders explained to schoolchildren the rules of safe behavior on the road, the algorithm of actions during emergency situations.
