Supply and sale of drugs in Lychakiv colony — Lviv police reported the suspicion of six members of the criminal group
The group operated under the control of one of the so-called “spies” in the correctional institution. Among its participants are those arrested and “at will”.
Operatives of the department of strategic investigations in Lviv region and investigators of the regional police exposed the activities of the criminal group and stopped the drug supply channel to the prison.
The police found that a 25-year-old Lviv resident, sentenced to four years in prison for robbery, organized the illegal activity. Having authority and connections in criminal circles, he received the status of a so-called “spotter” behind one of the wards in the Lychakiv Correctional Colony. Among its dependents, he chose the participants who were part of the criminal group. Also, he brought in persons who had previously served in the penal colony.
Its participants established a channel for the supply and sale of drugs and psychotropics in prison. Each of them had their own roles: collecting funds from convicts, purchasing and supplying prohibited items to the institution, selecting couriers and selling. Drugs were delivered to the correctional colony through so-called “transfers”.
On Sunday, October 10, one of the members of the group was detained by law enforcement officers while trying to deliver goods to the territory of the institution. In addition, authorized searches were carried out at the places of detention of suspects and their residence. Drugs, mobile phones and bank cards were seized.
On October 11-12, on the basis of the evidence received, the investigators informed six members of the group about the suspicion under Part 3 of Art. 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine with a qualifying feature — committing as part of an organized criminal group.
Regarding the detained member of the criminal group - the question of choosing a preventive measure for him is decided, for the rest - about their transfer to other correctional institutions.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, the Lviv Regional Prosecutor's Office carries out the procedural leadership in it.
For the illegal production, manufacture, acquisition, storage, transportation, shipment or sale of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances or their analogues, the current legislation provides for liability in the form of imprisonment for a period of nine to twelve years with confiscation of property.
