As of October 25, more than 800 criminal proceedings have been initiated in connection with the forgery of COVID-19 vaccination certificates. Across the country, mobile teams continue to work to detect fake documents.

This was stated during the live broadcast of the program “Freedom of Speech” by the Minister of Internal Affairs Denis Monastyrsky.

“All over Ukraine there are 1200 mobile groups that have the authority to verify the authenticity of the certificate of completion of the vaccination course. Mobile groups include not only police officers, but also the State Consumer Service. Even doctors can verify the authenticity of such a document. There are times when doctors trade such fakes. For example, law enforcement officers carry out control purchases to detect fraudsters among medical personnel,” said Denis Monastyrsky.

The Minister of the Interior noted that no fine will cover the damage if a person with a fake certificate infects tens and hundreds of citizens. Also, do not forget about the consequences in the international arena - already now Malta has ceased to recognize Ukrainian certificates.

“Last week, The New York Times devoted an entire article to the topic of fake certificates in Ukraine. We understand that the temptation to use a fake document is very great. For example, when a person after an illness wants to go on vacation. Therefore, to buy a certificate, our people consider it a lesser evil than to miss a planned vacation,” he stressed.

Denis Monastyrsky stressed that most of the cases that the cyberpolice checked regarding the forgery of certificates was a banal fraud, when citizens were simply cheated out of funds without providing even fake documents. There are also documented episodes when such references are simply made in Photoshop. A police officer or border guard, using a service tablet, easily detects a fake.

“Police officers, when they make comments to citizens and ask to comply with the regime, often receive questions from people whether the law enforcement officers themselves are procrastinated. I must say that more than 70% of the personnel of the Ministry of Internal Affairs received two doses of the vaccine. Therefore, we plan to introduce certain badges for police officers that would confirm this fact,” said the head of the law enforcement agency.

Last week, the police launched more than 80 criminal proceedings on the facts of falsification of COVID documents.
