National police detained members of transnational drug gang and seized more than 368 kg of heroin
Last night in the capital, law enforcement officers detained two Turkish citizens who organized the purchase of heroin in Iran and the transit of the drug through Ukraine to the countries of the European Union. The total value of the seized batch of banned substance at “black” market prices is more than a billion hryvnias.
As a result of a multi-way special operation, the operatives of the Department for Combating Drug Crimes with the investigators of the GUNP in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city. Sevastopol, with the assistance of the border and customs services of Ukraine, the customs service of the Republic of Armenia, fellow law enforcement officers from Georgia and specialists from the US Drug Enforcement Administration under the procedural guidance of the Prosecutor's Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city. Sevastopol eliminated the smuggling channel of heroin transit.
Yesterday, July 22, in the capital, police arrested two members of an international drug smugglers. two Turkish citizens, born in 1992 and 1999. The latter supplied heroin from Iran, through Armenia, Georgia to Ukraine for further sale in the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea and smuggling in small batches to EU countries.
The defendants were looking for entrepreneurs who carried out their activities in the field of international cargo transportation from Iran to other countries. First, they tested this scheme by making “trial”, “idle” deliveries. After a successful test of the canal, drug traffickers hid heroin in a dummy - a hollow brick and sent it to Ukraine.
To detect and document the criminal activities of the participants of the specified drug group, the operatives monitored the commission of a criminal offense in the form of controlled delivery.
When building materials with illegal contents arrived at a rented warehouse in Kiev, police detained two Turkish citizens.
During the investigation in a warehouse rented by drug criminals and in their personal belongings, law enforcement officers found 1,159 briquettes weighing almost 400 kg of the drug. The rapid tests confirmed that the detected substance is a dangerous drug “heroin”. In the future, the removed physical evidence will be transferred to the appropriate examination. According to preliminary estimates, the cost of the seized drug at the prices of the “black” market exceeds one billion hryvnias. The defendants were detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
Detainees are incriminated for committing crimes provided for in parts 2, 3 of Art. 307 (Illegal production, manufacture, acquisition, storage, transportation, shipment or sale of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances or their analogues) and part 2 of Art. 305 (Smuggling of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, their analogues or precursors) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Violators face punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
Investigative actions aimed at identifying other members of the drug group, who are both on the territory of our state and abroad, continue.
