National police stop large-scale smuggling of pseudoephedrine precursor from Egypt
Four individuals set up supplies of precursors for the manufacture of psychotropic substances, which were sold to clandestine drug laboratories in different regions of the state. They were detained at the international airport “Boryspil” during the importation of almost 10 thousand blisters with drugs worth about 2.5 million UAH.
Operatives of the Department for Combating Narcotics of the National Police, together with the employees of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Dnipropetrovsk region and the customs service of the Boryspil airport under the procedural guidance of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Prosecutor's Office, exposed a group of persons engaged in international smuggling of drug materials with Arab Republic of Egypt to Ukraine.
It was established that the organizers of the group are spouses from Kyiv — a 39-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman. In criminal activity, they involved two women who acted as “couriers”. The attackers flew to the country to purchase a drug containing pseudoephedrine, the circulation of which is limited. Precursors of foreign production they hid in suitcases with clothes.
Subsequently, the prohibited goods were sold via the Internet both wholesale and retail. The cost was 240-250 hryvnias per blister. The process of their sale was carried out by shipping parcels directly to customers, and they transferred money to bank cards.
On Sunday, April 24, as a result of a special operation, law enforcement officers detained all members of the group at the international airport “Boryspil” with a large number of drugs. In particular, almost 10 thousand blisters of foreign-made drug worth about 2.5 million UAH were seized from them.
In addition, law enforcement officers conducted sanctioned searches at the place of residence of the defendants. During them, about 500 blisters of pills were seized from previous contraband supplies.
On this fact, criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Art. 305 (Smuggling of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, their analogues or precursors or counterfeit medicines) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for up to ten years imprisonment with confiscation of property.
