Kyiv region: Police liquidated cannabis plantation worth more than 20 million hryvnias

Drug-containing plants sprouted in the field in Boryspil district. The total area sown is more than 3 hectares. Nearly 100,000 plants were removed from this site. The cost of detected drug raw materials at “black” market prices exceeds UAH 20 million.

Within the framework of the complex of operational and preventive measures under the conditional name “MAK”, the operatives of the Drug Crime Control Department in the Kiev region of the Department for Combating Drug Crime of the National Police of Ukraine received information that on the territory of one of the fields in Boryspil district there is a plantation of cannabis plants. During the survey of the specified area, the operatives together with the employees of the Boryspil district police department discovered the specified sowing near the village of Vovchkiv. The total area on which hemp grew was about 3.5 hectares.

In total, the police counted almost 100,000 cannabis plants. The cost of the detected drug raw materials at the prices of the “black” market is more than 20 million hryvnias.

The selected samples were collected and sent to the Kyiv NDEKC of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine for conducting relevant expert studies. The rest of the plants are destroyed.

On this fact, criminal proceedings have been initiated under Part 2 of Art. 310 (Sowing or cultivation of dreamy poppy or hemp) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Currently, operational and search activities are underway to identify persons involved in the illegal cultivation of drug-containing plants.
