The position of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine on hacking attack on websites of several Ukrainian companies
Recently, a number of the US media outlets have spread information about a hacker attack on the web-sites of several Ukrainian companies, including Burisma Holdings and Studio “Kvartal 95” (Quarter 95) to steal employees' personal data and the emails from company executives. It is noted that the hacker attack is probably committed by the Russian special services.
The cyber police have started criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Art. 163 and Part 2 of Art. 361 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Persons involved in committing of this criminal offense are being identified.
Pre-trial investigation is carried out under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: breach of secrecy of correspondence, telephone conversations, telegraph or other correspondence and unauthorized interference with work of computers, automated systems, computer networks or telecommunication networks.
As part of the criminal proceeding, the National Police of Ukraine has approached the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Area 1 Company, which has detected signs of a hacking attack, to assist in the provision of information published in the US media. In order to properly investigate the circumstances of the offense, the National Police is initiating the creation of a joint international investigation team, to which FBI representatives will be invited.
