Fifth day of observation: The situation in Novi Sanzhary is calm and controlled by law enforcement

This was announced today, February 24, by the adviser to the Minister of Internal Affairs Ivan Varchenko, who is in Novi Sanzhary in Poltava region on behalf of the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov.

“Law enforcement officers carry out their work in the regular mode. Today there was a rotation of units of the National Police and the National Guard of Ukraine. On the territory of the object of observation, around the perimeter and in general in the settlement - order. Law enforcers protect the rights and freedoms of citizens. We are moving towards the end of the fourteen-day period,” the adviser to the minister said.

Ivan Varchenko said that currently pretrial investigations are ongoing in 5 criminal proceedings initiated under various articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine after the mass riots of February 20 in Novi Sanzhary.

“The roles and place of each person are clarified and, if their actions contain signs of a criminal offense, citizens will be held criminally liable. There are currently 6 such people. It is possible that this figure will increase. Investigators have 2 months to investigate criminal proceedings. After the investigation announces suspicions to citizens, the court will choose preventive measures for them,” Ivan Varchenko said.

In addition, the adviser to the interior minister said that at the moment one of the detainees, who was declared a suspect for Art. 345 Criminal Code of Ukraine (Threat or violence against a law enforcement officer), the court has already chosen a preventive measure in the form of house arrest at night.

Ivan Varchenko also reported that the identified offenders and other people who committed active illegal actions to obstruct the movement of people evacuated from China are local residents. But we check the role and participation of other people who did not physically interfere in the illegal process,” Ivan Varchenko said.

In turn, the head of the public health center Igor Kuzin said that Ukraine received an additional supply of test systems from the World Health Organization.

“This is a kind of humanitarian aid that the World Health Organization provides to different countries. Today, almost 900 kits for 900 people have been delivered to Ukraine. We are able to conduct research if necessary,” said Igor Kuzin.
