Cyber police expose fraudulent scheme to seize online banking accounts

The defendant chose a company of people in recreation establishments and asked for a phone allegedly to make a call. Using the password recovery function, he changed the financial number of the victims to his own and issued online loans. The man has already been declared a suspect. He faces up to 8 years in prison.

Cyberpolice officers in the Volyn region, together with police investigators, under the procedural guidance of the Lutsk City Prosecutor's Office, have exposed a 25-year-old man in fraud.

The cyberpolice established that the fraudulent scheme looked like this: the defendant sat down with companies in recreation facilities, met and rested with them. Then he asked one of the company members for a phone allegedly to make a call. Instead, in the mobile online banking application, using the password recovery function, he changed the financial number of the victims to his own. Then I received an SMS message from the bank to my number. In this way, the attacker gained access to the online banking accounts of the victims.

In the future, the defendant, having the confidential data of the owners of these accounts, issued online loans from various institutions.

The cyberpolice conducted a search at the defendant's residence. According to the results, computer equipment, mobile phones, SIM cards and “rough” records were removed.

According to this fact, criminal proceedings were opened under Part 3 of Art. 190 (Fraud) and Part 1 of Art. 361 (Unauthorized interference in the operation of electronic computers (computers), automated systems, computer networks or telecommunication networks) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The man has been informed of the suspicion. He faces up to eight years in prison.
