In the Zaporozhye region police seized a shipment of drugs worth UAH 20 million (PHOTO, VIDEO)

Law enforcement officers terminated the activity of a criminal group involved in drug dealing.  During searches police seized almost three kilograms of cocaine, some 0.5 kg of cannabis, 15 grams of heroin, 100 grams of amphetamine and opium, as well as about a thousand "ecstasy" pills (fat tab).  Firearms, explosives, detonators were also confiscated. Andrew Kikhtenko, the head of the Department of fighting drug-related crime of the National Police,  announced this on February 1st.

According to him, at the end of last year staff of the Office of fighting drug-related crime of the Zaporozhye regional Police Department received information about a criminal group, operating in the region.  Malefactors have set going a schema of the drugs supply and distribution.  They dealt with cocaine, heroin and psychotropic substance "ecstasy."

Police arrested a mob kingpin who was in the center of this schema. This man was directly responsible for the procurement, storage and wholesale distribution of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.

"The group had a very ramified network of contacts in the criminal world both in Ukraine and abroad.  They kept their activities in extremely high secrecy", - said the Head of the Department of fighting drug-related crime.

Nevertheless, the police was able to obtain evidences of illegal activities of this group.  In particular, the police found location of the gang "logistics center", where the malefactors kept prohibited substances.

In addition to drugs, the law enforcement officers seized a hunting rifle, two TT pistols, two defensive grenades F1 and one offensive grenade, walky-talkies, and remote detonators.

Suspect was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the CPC.  Currently a measure of restraint is being selected for suspect while police is carrying out further actions in order to identify the remaining members of the criminal group and the delivery channels.  The detainee faces 8 to 12 years in prison.
