On May 25, 2017, the Ambassador of Japan and the President of the Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, within the framework of the Kyoto Protocol, handed over to the National Police of Ukraine (NPU) the new environment-friendly off-road vehicles that would be sent to the regional police units.

The event was attended by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Vladimir Groysman, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov, the Head of the National Police of Ukraine Sergey Knyazev, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine Shigeki Sumi, the President of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation Osamu Masuko.

«The provision of environment-friendly Mitsubishi cars is one more step towards the technical equipment of the new Ukrainian police. And today we are taking steps that will allow you to have everything you need for a proper performance of your duties.  Our goal is to make every citizen of Ukraine feel completely safe.  This requires your self-control, your exceptional service and, unquestionably, the high-quality procurement for our law enforcement system», – stressed the Prime Minister.

In his turn, Arsen Avakov noted that today's event is not the first project implemented with the support of the Government of Japan.

«We see here 635 specially equipped, economic and environmental-friendly, enduring, high capacity, cross-country service cars.  This evening they will leave for all regions of Ukraine - I imagine how their future drivers are looking forward to getting to know them.  These "handsome cars" will serve in the NPU regional Main Directorates, the territorial units of the Rapid Response Teams in the countryside, the prevention departments and the explosive ordnance disposal units.  I want to publicly thank Mr. Osamu Masuko, the President of the Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, who, in response to our request and taking into account the special situation of the police development in Ukraine, granted a 13% discount on the cost of these vehicles.  The money saved will be used to buy other 90-95 cars, depending on the exchange rate», – said the Minister of Internal Affairs.

The main technical and environmental parameters of the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV cars indicate, that they are the most efficient all-wheel-drive hybrid cars for the police service.  The new crossovers fully comply with the environmental requirements of the Kyoto Protocol to limit greenhouse gas emissions in the transportation sector.  In addition, according to the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov, the National Police will receive the cars with the best configuration, and due to low fuel consumption, it will be possible to save about UAH 330 million a year on fuel costs for the car fleet of the National Police.

«Procurement of the modern equipment for the police units is very important because everyone understands that a good car is one of the tools that helps in the fight against crime.  We hope that fuel economy due to the use of hybrid cars will allow us to update further our car fleet.  We continue the difficult work of creating a new national police:  update its equipment, raise salaries, improve the social security of policemen, and most importantly - clean the police from dirty cops and cultivate new police staff.  This is not an easy path, but we will definitely pass it - step by step, despite the obstacles and mistakes!», – stressed the minister.
