On December 8, 2017, the Ministry of Internal Affairs bestowed the departmental awards to 15 servicemen and veterans of the ATO who were members of the Ukrainian national team at the international sports competitions Invictus Games (Toronto, Canada).

"With gratitude from the State of Ukraine, I have the honor to present you with departmental awards - honorary firearms - for achieving high sports scores at the third international sports competition Invictus Games. The Ukrainian team took part in these international competitions for the first time and won the second place among 17 participating teams.  You have demonstrated great dedication and will to win!  Despite the severe injuries, you have managed to get back out there and achieved brilliant victories in the sport.  Each of you represents the strength and indestructibility of Ukraine!" - said the Minister of Internal Affairs.

The national team of Ukraine brought 14 awards from Toronto: eight gold, four silver, and two bronze medals. 15 representatives of our country competed in six sports: powerlifting, swimming, track and field, archery, rowing on simulators and road cycling.

The Ukrainian team included veterans and active military personnel of the Armed Forces, the National Police, the National Guard, the State Border Service and volunteer battalions, who were injured or became sick in the course or as a result of performing their duty.

"The strength of the spirit is stronger than physical disabilities!  We will not leave aside people who received disability during hostilities: there is always a place for our staff in the Ministry of Internal Affairs. We must help them to lead peaceful leaves!" - stated Arsen Avakov.

Invictus Games - international sports competition among servicemen and veterans who were injured or became sick in the course or as a result of performing their duty.  The games were founded by Prince Harry (Prince Henry of Wales).

The Latin word Invictus represent the manliness of people who were seriously traumatized or injured but found the strength to return to active life and even to new achievements.

Thanks to the spectacular sports competitions, the Invictus Games contribute to the rehabilitation of wounded fighters, draw attention to the problems of their social adaptation, and promote respect for people who served their country with dignity.

The first Games took place in London in 2014 and became a clear demonstration of capabilities of the military men that protect their country and their indestructible will to live.  In 2016, the Games in Orlando repeated the success of the London competition, and in September 2017 military athletes met in Toronto.  This year the Ukrainian team joined the Invictus Games.
