A congress of the heads of the MRC of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine was held on the introduction of modern types of rehabilitation for servicemen in medical institutions of the department. During the conference, representatives of medical centers from all over Ukraine shared not only their own experiences, but also discussed foreign practices that could be added to the plans for the rehabilitation of soldiers.

The event was joined by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Igor Klymenko, who thanked all those present for fruitful work since the beginning of the war and stressed that rehabilitation is one of the priorities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.

“Behind us is a great country that needs to be defended and rebuilt. Medicine should work as a whole so that our boys and girls receive the maximum level of professional care in our rehabilitation centers,” said the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.

“We live in a period where we have to react very quickly, because someone's life depends on it. We need to be people-oriented so that our fighters can really undergo high-quality rehabilitation and return to normal life. In unity and support is our strength,” Inna Yashchuk, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, addressed the participants of the event.

Inna Yashchuk stressed that each of the employees of rehabilitation centers should understand the level of responsibility when working with such patients and work together for the result.

In turn, Director of the Health Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Maxim Parubets noted that the main task is a single effective medical system with emphasis on the Security and Defense Forces of Ukraine:

“Each of you is an integral part of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Without medicine, our Ministry cannot exist, because we are a fighting department. We have not only combat units, but also medical ones. Departmental medicine has to solve the priority tasks, for now — this is the rehabilitation of our fighters.”

During the conference, the heads of medical institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs discussed various methods of rehabilitation of people with amputations, combat injuries, impairment and loss of vision. We are talking about psychological and physical rehabilitation, occupational therapy (formation of life skills), training in spatial orientation and mobility, mastering digital skills, mastering Braille, as well as organizing joint leisure for veterans for socialization.

Yulia Shvedenko, head of the MRC “Puschi-Vodytsi”, spoke in more detail about the experience of conducting such methods as canister therapy and animalotherapy for psychological rehabilitation of fighters.

The participants also discussed such a way of supporting fighters as mentoring with the help of people who have already completed a rehabilitation course and can share their own experiences. The mentor can tell you where the biggest obstacles are, how to prepare for them and how to go through this period most effectively.

The event was also attended by representatives of the Stronghman Federation of Ukraine, headed by President Sergey Konyushko. They shared with the heads of medical centers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine the experience of rehabilitation of fighters through sports competitions.

“Sport is the best tool for the resocialization of veterans, because sports competitions motivate fighters and bring them back to life. We understand that due to the war, the number of veterans will grow rapidly, so we organize such events in Ukraine, attracting foreign partners,” said the President of the Stronghman Federation.

Serhiy Konyushok told about a special application for war veterans — Trenvet, which enables veterans and servicemen to find a coach and get free sports rehabilitation, because for good results there must be frequency in sports activities.

Recall that in March, on the basis of the Odessa State University of Internal Affairs, a sports-inclusive event “Strong of Ukraine” was held.

Among the participants were veterans of the National Guard, the State Border Service, the Armed Forces of Ukraine and employees of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, who were injured while performing official duties.

At the end of the conference, the participants agreed to work on holding such events on an ongoing basis in order to share and acquire new experience in the issue of rehabilitation of soldiers.

“We must work ahead and meet new challenges with readiness,” said State Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Inna Yashchuk.
