UAH 13.2 million in losses to the state budget: a contractor who hid from the investigation was detained
Law enforcement officers detained a participant in a financial transaction who was wanted. The defendant is the director of a contracting company that executed an order for the reconstruction of high-speed tram lines for one of the largest municipal enterprises in the field of passenger transportation “Kyivpastrans”.
In 2020, employees of the utility company entered into an agreement with a contractor for the reconstruction of tracks. Officials signed documents with knowingly inaccurate data on the volume and cost of the planned repair work. The total amount of damage caused to the state budget is more than UAH 13.2 million.
Kyivpastran officials received suspicions in the summer of 2021. On February 27, the head of the contracting organization, who was hidden from the investigation for almost two and a half years, was reported about the suspicion. The actions of the suspect are qualified under Part 5 of Art. 27 Part 5 of Art. 191 (Appropriation, embezzlement of property or possession of it by abuse of official position) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of seven to twelve years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a term of up to three years and with confiscation of property.
