KHNUVS held trainings for media representatives on journalistic security
The Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs held trainings for journalists on security and home care. The event, organized jointly with Kharkiv Press Club, was attended by 23 media representatives from different regions of Ukraine — Sumy, Poltava, Kharkiv, Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
The rector of the university, third-rank police general Valery Sokurenko and the first vice-rector, police colonel Dmitry Shvets, met with journalists. The Rector emphasized the importance of mediators' work in objective and impartial coverage of events and emphasized the importance of observing personal safety rules while working in difficult conditions. The rector noted that the teachers of the university will conduct appropriate master classes that will help protect themselves in various situations, wished the participants of the training new, useful knowledge and fruitful work.
The first training was devoted to the topic “Journalist safety during mass events and in the combat zone”. Classes were held at numerous training grounds of the university. Journalists mastered the rules of working in emergency conditions, learned to use protective equipment (body armor), use improvised means for self-defense, and also received useful advice on how to behave and organize their work properly when working during mass riots or shelling, and much more.
In the multimedia interactive shooting “Ingul-7", a class was held with journalists, during which they were familiarized with the rules for the use of traumatic weapons and the safety measures that must be observed during self-defense.
On a special obstacle course, journalists tested their psychophysical endurance — climbed to a certain height and overcame obstacles.
In the tactical town, the skills necessary to ensure their own safety in various threatening situations were practiced. For example, how to behave when criminals try to break into a room where a journalist is located or there is shelling from outside and inside, and where in such circumstances is the most dangerous place to hide and wait for help
The theme of the second training, which took place the next day, was “Providing first aid according to the standards of the international program BLS (basic life support)”. The journalists received theoretical knowledge on the basics of life support that meet the requirements of the international program BLS (basic life support), learned to stop bleeding and correctly apply tourniquets, properly transport a person who cannot move independently, provide home care for breathing disorders or stops, cardiovascular disorders and much more.
The classes were conducted by experienced specialists of the university, including masters of sports of Europe and the world, honored coaches of Ukraine, coaches of ISITAR from various programs, participants of ATO/OOO, UN international operations, consultants in the office of the OSCE project coordinator in Ukraine, etc.
Yulia Sabayeva (Rubizhansky News) shared her impressions of the trainings. Rubizhne, Luhansk region): “This is not the first time I participate in the trainings held at the university and every time I admire the work of your coaches. It is very nice to know that there are such professionals in our law enforcement field. They are willing to share their knowledge, skills and skills with people of other professions, including journalists. If you invite again, I will be glad to come again.”
Upon completion of the training, all participants received certificates and first aid kits for their editorial staff.
Addressing the media, the first vice-rector of the university, Colonel of Police Dmytro Shvets, noted that an important part of the work of the National Police is interaction with the media. “While at the university,” the first vice-rector emphasized, “you saw what a modern material and technical base we have, which we have opportunities for high-quality training of specialists for the National Police of Ukraine, and also experienced some stages of training of our cadets. This is both fire, and tactical, and medical training and much more.”
Head of Kharkiv Press Club Lyudmila Dolia thanked the university staff for the interesting, rich and informative training, for the excellent trainers-trainers who conducted classes and provided a lot of useful information, and expressed hope for further cooperation.
It should be noted that such trainings for journalists at Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs have been held for several years in a row and have become traditional. During this time, their participants were more than 200 representatives of the mass media from all over Ukraine.
