Investigators informed a resident of Poltava about suspicion of obstructing the professional activity of journalists
After a detailed study of the circumstances of the proceedings opened in 2017 on the fact of a deliberate illegal ban on the coverage of a social topic by journalists of one of the city's television channels, a number of procedural decisions were initiated. At the moment, investigators have reported on suspicion of obstructing the professional activities of journalists to 44-year-old Poltava.
Such a procedural decision was made after a thorough review of criminal proceedings of the past years. A detailed study of each case related to violation of journalists' rights was discussed at the meeting of Ivan Vyhivsky, Poltava region police chief, with Sergey Tomilenko, head of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine.
Recall that this meeting took place in February at the Main Directorate of Police of the region as part of a visit to support journalists by national media experts, during which they raised key issues that are a priority for the National Union of Journalists — physical safety of journalists and prevention of impunity in the field of violation of their rights.
It was then that Ivan Vyhivsky assured that the police were interested in an objective investigation of criminal proceedings opened on the facts of committing illegal acts against journalists.
At the moment, there is already a first result. After a detailed study of the circumstances of the proceedings opened in 2017 on the fact of the deliberate illegal prohibition of coverage of the social topic by the journalists of the TV channel, a number of procedural decisions were initiated. Police investigators, under the procedural guidance of the Poltava region prosecutor's office, informed the 44-year-old Poltava about the suspicion of deliberately obstructing the legal professional activity of journalists of one of the city's television channels. The police are investigating under Part 1 of Art. 171 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, a complex of necessary investigative actions is ongoing.
The head of the regional police stressed:
“As I mentioned earlier, during the meeting with the chairman of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine, the police are interested in ensuring that all proceedings opened on the basis of the crime are directed to the court. We will do everything we can to make journalists feel that their legitimate professional activities are protected by law.
