The police of the Lviv region together with the employees of the Main Directorate of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Lviv region under the procedural guidance of the prosecutor's office of the region detained the suspects of arson of the Radio Svoboda journalist's car. This was stated by the Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov.

“The police of Lviv region detained the suspects in the arson of the car of the journalist “Radio Svoboda” Galina Tereshchuk. Searches were carried out. The evidence base is sufficient. The arsonist is a student. Who prompted him to do this - we establish. The safety of journalists is a priority,” Arsen Avakov said.

“Law enforcement officers did a tremendous job — they interviewed several hundred citizens, studied the recordings of dozens of CCTV cameras and tracked the movements of the attacker. He changed clothes several times, tried to change his appearance, but despite this, we managed to establish his whereabouts - and on February 5 he was detained in Odessa, where he fled after committing a crime. Colleagues — criminal investigation officers of the Odessa region police, helped to detain the attacker, a 19-year-old native of Moldova, registered in Khmelnichenna, living in Lviv. Now the investigation establishes the involvement of other persons in the commission of this crime,” said the head of the Main Department of the National Police in Lviv region Vasily Vikonsky.

The offender was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Investigators of the Galician police department informed him of the suspicion of committing the crime provided for in Part 2 of Art. 194 (Intentional destruction or damage to property) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for punishment — imprisonment for a term of three to ten years. The court will choose a preventive measure for the detainee.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.

Recall, on January 30, a journalist contacted the Galician police department with a report that around midnight an unknown person set fire to her car “Mitsubishi Colt”, which she left parked at night near the house.
