Zhytomyr: Anton Gerashchenko presented the project “Community Police Officer”
Today, May 25, the official launch of 17 police offices for community officers took place in Zhytomyr. During the presentation of the project, police officers of Zhytomyr and Irshansk territorial communities also handed over the keys of 14 new service vehicles, which will contribute to their mobility and efficiency.
Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Anton Gerashchenko during the solemn launch of the project said:
“Zhytomyr is one of the regional centers of Ukraine, where citizens feel most secure. This, I am convinced, is the merit of effective cooperation between local authorities and the police. Today's event, the start of a large project “Community Police Officer” is an example of understanding the importance of the issue of population safety by those responsible for it. The trust of people in the authorities depends, among other things, on the quality, mobility, proximity to the people of the police. Therefore, such real material and technical assistance to law enforcement is really valuable. The Ministry of Internal Affairs continues to implement new and new projects aimed at improving the level of security: from the development of the video surveillance system to changes in the educational process. We hope to support these initiatives in society,” said Anton Gerashchenko.
It should be noted that the implementation of the project “Community Police Officer” in Zhytomyr region is carried out with the support of American partners.
The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs presented 12 police officers of Zhytomyr and 2 Irshansk territorial communities with certificates of successful graduation. Their preparation continued with the participation and assistance of international partners for almost three months on the basis of Dnipropetrovsk State University of Internal Affairs. And it was preceded by a competitive selection, which took place with the participation of representatives of territorial communities, in which police officers will now work.
Today, 442 community police officers in the state ensure the safety of 3.5 million people, mostly in rural areas. Zhytomyr is the first major city in Ukraine, the first regional center, where we launch the “Community Police Officer” project. It is from your city, at the insistence of the local authorities, that the implementation of the project in large cities begins. And we go with them already with experience,” said Deputy Head of the National Police Oleksandr Fatsevich.
During the event, Deputy Chairman of the National Police Oleksandr Facevych also handed the officers the “HATSAN ESCORT AIMGUARD POLICE” pump rifles, and the heads of the Zhytomyr City Council Serhiy Sukhomlin and the Irshansk Settlement Council Serhiy Sakhnenko — the keys of the purchased funds of the community 12 official Renault Duster. The keys to 2 more cars from the Main Directorate of the National Police of Zhytomyr region were handed over to the police by the head of the GUNP Yuriy Oliynyk.
The participants of the event also answered journalists' questions about this project and prospects for its further implementation in the region.
