As part of Operation Lone Wolf, Italian police tracked down a 50-year-old man — a former policeman from Cagliari, who fought in Ukraine on the side of pro-Russian illegal armed groups against Ukrainian forces.

In 2015, he already came into the sight of law enforcement officers investigating the participation of Italian citizens — mercenaries in illegal armed formations in eastern Ukraine. At that time, the detainee escaped punishment because he claimed that he did not shoot Ukrainian soldiers.

However, a new criminal case has been opened against the 50-year-old man, he is accused of terrorist activities. During the investigation, the suspect cannot leave the country, and his residence has already been searched.

It is worth noting that the investigation is being carried out by the Digos special unit (General Investigations and Special Operations Division), which has already managed to trace numerous bank transactions to the suspect's personal account that came from the so-called “DNR”, as well as seize the materials of photos, videos and other documents confirming the suspicion of the trail Ministry. Chairman of the Ukrainian part of the Ukrainian-Italian Council for Economic, Industrial and Financial Cooperation, Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov repeatedly, during negotiations with the Italian
officials stressed the inadmissibility of participation of Italian citizens on the side of pro-Russian armed formations in eastern Ukraine and called for a tougher response to such cases.

Ukrainian law enforcement officers, in turn, document and transmit to Rome all available information.
