Sergey Panteleev noted that human trafficking remains one of the most pressing problems and the fight against this type of crime requires constant active actions.
“Since the beginning of 2021, police officers have identified more than 760 criminal offenses related to human trafficking. Exposed and liquidated the activities of 26 organized criminal groups, which included 139 participants. Their guilt is proven. Cases are referred to the court, which will examine the evidence and issue the relevant verdicts. 328 traffickers have been notified of suspicion. 895 criminal proceedings have been referred to the court. In 7 months, we talked with almost 500 victims of human trafficking,” said the head of the Department of Migration Police of the NPU.
In turn, the Head of the Human Rights Monitoring Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Gladchuk stressed that the prevention of human trafficking is a priority area for the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and the central executive bodies, whose activities are coordinated by the Minister.
“Unfortunately, human trafficking is a widespread phenomenon today. Due to the frantic latency, this phenomenon is difficult to counteract. The big problem is that the victims themselves cannot identify themselves as victims of human trafficking. Therefore, any activities aimed at disseminating information about this phenomenon, informational and explanatory work, information campaigns, will help persons in such circumstances. They will help them understand this and seek help from the National Police in time,” said Dmitry Gladchuk.
During the press briefing, they presented the start of a joint project between the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the Department of Migration Police and the SS “A21 Ukraine” aimed at helping victims after police raids.
