Volyn police together with border guards stopped the scheme of illegal transportation of persons across the state border
Currently, several searches are ongoing simultaneously in settlements in the Kovel district, near the border with Poland.
Today, within the framework of open criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Art. 332 (Illegal transfer of persons across the state border of Ukraine) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine 8 sanctioned searches take place in Kovel district.
Searches are carried out by police officers of the Kovel District Administration, the Investigative Department of the GUNP, the Directorate of KORD, the Special Police Companies, the employees of the Strategic Investigations Department in the Volyn region, together with the employees of the Lutsk Border Detachment and under the procedural direction of the Kovel District Prosecutor's Office.
The police found that a group of local residents had set up an illegal transfer of recruits across the state border. They equipped these people with cigarettes and ferried boats across the West Bug to the neighboring state. There, cigarettes were sold and made illegal profits on a large scale: on average, the income from the sale of 1 box of tobacco products could reach thousands of US dollars. Police documented at least 5 episodes of such criminal activity.
Today, during searches, 8 defendants were found and seized: mobile terminals, radio-controlled aircraft with accessories, binoculars, thermal imagers, radios, inflatable boats and swimming vests, rifles, ammunition and other items and weapons that the attackers used in the crime activity. Vehicles belonging to them, which are placed on the arrest site, were also seized. All seized property will be arrested.
Concerning the defendants, the issue of declaring suspicions to them on the grounds of a criminal offense, provided for in part 2 of Art. 2, will be resolved. 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of five to seven years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a period of up to three years.
