They demanded funds from students and foreigners — in Kharkiv the police detained a criminal group
A 53-year-old Kharkiv resident organized the criminal activity. As accomplices, he took his son and two citizens of another state temporarily residing in Ukraine.
During the investigation, the operatives of the Directorate of Strategic Investigations in the Kharkiv region and the investigators of the Investigative Department of the Regional Police established that the attackers demanded funds from students and foreigners. At the same time, they were physically abused, even deprived of their liberty and seized property until they received money.
On July 4, operatives and investigators with the strong support of the fighters of the special unit of the DSR and the special police regiment detained the organizer and two of his accomplices in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. In order to force the victim to give 30,000 UAH, the attackers took his car, illegally deprived him of his liberty, tied up, beat, and then released. Detained intruders while receiving part of the agreed amount from the victim.
Detainees have already been informed of suspicion under Art. 189 (extortion) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The issue of electing preventive measures to those involved is being resolved.
After carrying out the necessary investigative and operational measures, the issue of additional legal qualification for the actions of the participants will be resolved.
