More than a million hryvnias in cash were stolen: Kiev police detained a duo of serial thefts
Thieves stole property from the homes of vacationing citizens, silenced alarms with special equipment, broke doors and cut safes. Thieves used specially made tools to open locks and even made devices for firing bullets.
A resident of Vyshhorod district contacted the police and reported that within a week, while she was away from home, intruders penetrated her house by squeezing a metal-plastic window and stole cash totaling more than UAH million, as well as gold and silver jewelry.
Employees of the Vyshhorod district police department, together with the operatives of the Criminal Investigation Department, conducted a number of search activities and established the identities of the perpetrators. They turned out to be a 59-year-old resident of Vyshhorod district and a 44-year-old Kiev resident, who had already been convicted of counterfeiting foreign currency, fraud and giving illegal benefits to a law enforcement officer.
Law enforcement found that the intruders watched when the owners of the houses would go on vacation, and then came and robbed their homes. They took mainly money, jewelry, icons and other valuable property.
At the places of residence of the villains, the police conducted sanctioned searches and seized various locks, special silencers for turning off alarms, property stolen by men, homemade devices for firing rubber bullets, as well as other material evidence confirming the involvement of men with the teacher Theft.
Investigators following the procedural guidance of the prosecutor's office informed the attackers about the suspicion under Part 5 of Article 185 (Theft) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of seven to twelve years with confiscation of property.
For both thieves, the court chose a preventive measure in the form of detention. One of the men established the possibility of making a pledge in the amount of UAH 600,000.
Currently, law enforcement officers are checking the involvement of men in the commission of similar crimes on the territory of Kyiv and the region.
