Road Safety Week Begins in Ukraine
Today, November 15, Road Safety Week began in Ukraine and is quite timely. Systematic accidents of recent weeks in the country cause considerable resonance among the population and this, of course, is not without reason.
As noted yesterday, on November 14, Minister of Internal Affairs Denis Monastyrsky, Kharkiv revealed many problems that actually exist with violations of the Rules of the Road.
Last Thursday, when a drug-intoxicated driver knocked down two children at a pedestrian crossing in Kharkiv. And this is just one of the violations that occur daily on the territory of Ukraine.
Today, during the opening of the second stage of the annual All-Ukrainian Road Safety Week, First Deputy Head of the Patrol Police Department Oleksiy Biloshitsky informed the public about the real state of safety on Ukrainian roads. He also spoke about the positive changes that the National Police together with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine have introduced in recent years.
Alexey Beloshitsky reported that this year there were more than 154,000 accidents on the roads of Ukraine. More than 20,000 accidents with casualties or fatalities. In more detail, the accidents in which persons were injured - 24,905 people. Accidents where people died are also numerous - 2,592 people.
“However, this year we have positive statistics. As for the dead, there is a decrease in the number of deaths on our roads by 10 percent. I hope we will be able to maintain such positive dynamics until the end of the year,” Beloshitsky said.
He also named five main causes of accidents with victims and dead. More than 40% of such incidents occur due to violation of the speed limit. In the second place - violation of the rules of maneuvering, on the third - violation of the rules of crossing the intersection, on the fourth - violation of the rules of passage of pedestrian crossings. Completes the list - failure to maintain a safe distance between vehicles.
Today, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine has implemented many effective changes, for example, the creation of 30 mobile technical laboratories or the System of video fixation of traffic violations.
Recall that during the year of operation of the system of automatic fixation of traffic violations, the number of deaths on the roads decreased by 17%.
