As part of the implementation of the joint project “Improving the training capabilities of units of the National Guard of Ukraine” (LOE5), funded by the Global Security Reserve Fund (GSCF) through the US Department of Defense, the first courses on the development of the National Guard collective training system were completed at the NGU International Center.

Colonel Konstantin Pletko, Acting Director of the Department of Professional Training of the Main Directorate of the National Guard of Ukraine, Colonel Konstantin Pletko, and the Head of the Department of International Cooperation of the Main Directorate of the National Guard of Ukraine Colonel Volodymyr Hrabchav arrived to summarize their results and discuss further cooperation with American colleagues Ck.

“We are very grateful to the American side for the meaningful courses “Unit Training Management” and “Development and Operation of the Training Center”, as well as for the professionalism of its instructors. We are waiting for the designation of another group of officers from territorial administrations to continue training. These courses will help to create an effective system of collective training in the National Guard of Ukraine, which will be mutually compatible with the system of training units of NATO member countries and partners,” said Colonel Konstantin Pletko, acting director of the Department of Professional Training of the Main Directorate of the National Guard of Ukraine.

American colleagues noted the great responsibility of the participants of the courses and their desire for changes in creating a systematic approach to conducting collective training of National Guard units, as well as to adapt the acquired knowledge as soon as possible and implement it in the management documents of NGU.

“During my time in Ukraine, I can say that the National Guard always finds a way to realize all the initiatives it plans. There is a lot of work towards training units, but the National Guard is ready for it and will succeed. These courses will help to ensure the development of the training system and readiness of the National Guard to meet internal defense requirements, as well as to provide support in joint operations together with the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” said a representative of the Group of Advisors on Doctrine and Education (DEAG) of the Defense Cooperation Department of the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine during the summing up of the courses by Gary Quosh.

According to Colonel Volodymyr Hrabchak, the head of the Department of International Cooperation of the State Department of National Science and Technology, the content of these courses will help determine the order of organization of the training system and its management system in the National Guard of Ukraine, as well as contribute to the development of the activity of the training center.

“These are the first pilot courses under the LOE5 project, and they will be continued soon. The course “Unit Training Management” must be taken as senior officers of the General Directorate, Territorial Departments, as well as the command of military units, in order to understand how the systemic approach is applied in the collective training of our international partners in order to adapt these approaches in the training system in the National Guard. This course will be the basis for the development of training doctrine in the National Guard of Ukraine,” Colonel Volodymyr Hrabchak added.
