Special training course for snipers (UAR-10) is held at the Training and Combat Center for Special Operations of the International Center of NGU in Kyiv region. It involves guardsmen who have just arrived in the service of the National Guard special purpose units or have expressed a desire to master the military profession of a sniper.

During training, special forces officers improve their skills and acquire sniping skills, which are passed on to them by instructors of the Joint Operational and Tactical Group of the Armed Forces of Canada in Ukraine (Operation UNIFIER).

According to the head of the Sniper Training Coordination Service of the Department of Professional Training of the Main Directorate of the NGU Colonel Mykola Sherstyuk, this is the first special training course for snipers (UAR-10) conducted according to NATO standards.

“The sniper training curriculum was tested during the pilot project of the course, which served as the basis for the creation of a basic sniper training curriculum that meets NATO standards. It is based on the experience of training snipers in the Canadian Armed Forces and the participation of National Guard troops in combat operations during the Joint Forces Operation in eastern Ukraine,” said Colonel Mykola Sherstyuk.

National Guard snipers acquire persistent skills and improve their skills by adopting a NATO training program and in turn share experience with their Canadian counterparts that they have gained during combat operations.

During the course, theoretical knowledge is integrated with practical knowledge. Special agents study all aspects of sniper work from targeting terrain without topographic devices, selection and covert movement on position to proper camouflage and conducting high-precision long-range shooting regardless of weather conditions.

At each stage of preparation, the participants of the course, after mastering the theory and practice, pass the test standards for the implementation of which they have only a few attempts.

The Canadian instructors of Operation “UNIFIER” not only provide advisory assistance to the instructors of the Training and Combat Center in conducting classes and standardization of training, but also conduct field exercises themselves.
