The State Emergency Service held a briefing on the prevention of emergencies and deaths during the Christmas holidays

On January 6, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine held a briefing of representatives of the State Emergency Service, territorial units of the Rescue Service, as well as the National Police of Ukraine and the clergy on preventing the occurrence of emergency events during the Christmas holidays.

The participants demonstrated to the media the current statistics of the occurrence of emergency events since the beginning of 2022, the deaths of people, and also told how to protect their lives from the dangers associated with mass events during the Christmas period.

Thus, the representative of the Emergency Prevention Department of the State Emergency Situations of Ukraine Oleksandr Chekrygin reported information on the number of fires that occurred during 2021 and their consequences. He noted that of their total number, which is 79 thousand 470 cases, 35.7% occurred in the dwellings of citizens. Unfortunately, the fires in the housing sector last year killed 1 thousand 736 people, including 33 children. Oleksandr Chekrygin called on citizens to take care of fire safety in everyday life and observe the rules of safe heating of dwellings in winter. He also said that on the eve of the celebration of the Nativity of Christ, the special attention of the SNS is focused on compliance with the fire regime at religious sites, the availability of safe evacuation routes and sufficient fire extinguishing means.

In turn, the head of the Department of Juvenile Prevention of the National Police of Ukraine Vasyl Bohdan emphasized the public's attention on the safety of children, in particular, urged parents not to leave them at home: “Remember, in winter, every minute counts when a child disappears, so do not pass by if you see on the street Make sure your child needs immediate help.”

The representative of the clergy, priest Mikhail Omelyan urged believers and clergy to observe the rules of safe handling of open fire during divine services, and also stressed that fire should shine in the soul, not provoke fires.

Dmytro Mozhevenko — representative of the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the city. Kyiv reported on the measures that will be taken by the city's rescuers to ensure security at facilities with a mass of people. He also reported that in all religious buildings in Kiev, checks were carried out on the state of maintenance of electricity and water management, evacuation routes, and the availability of fire extinguishing means. At the same time, such work was carried out by all territorial units of the State Emergency Service throughout the country.

Dmytro Pidgurny, a representative of the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service in the Kyiv region, told separately about safety at water bodies in the winter period. He said that since the beginning of 2022, one child has already died on the territory of the region on the reservoir, and the search continues for a man who fell under the ice on January 3 while fishing. The speaker urged citizens not to go to reservoirs during the period of temperature fluctuations and told by what signs it is possible to determine the safety of the ice cover.

During the briefing, we also talked about the safety of tourists in the mountains. So, mountain rescuer from the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service in the Ivano-Frankivsk region Taras Brinda told what preparation should be carried out when planning a trip to the mountains. He focused on the need to register his trips with the rescuers of the State Emergency Service, and also presented the program “Rescue in the Mountains” developed by the regional department of the SNS, the use of which will allow you to quickly send your geolocation to the searchers and get timely assistance if necessary.
