Creating a safe environment for every Ukrainian is a priority for the system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, - Kateryna Pavlichenko
This was said by Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Kateryna Pavlichenko today, May 13, during the All-Ukrainian Forum “Ukraine 30. The security of the country.”
The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs noted that human security is the security of the country. That is why the issue of preventing and combating domestic violence, gender-based violence and creating a safe environment for children acquires special importance.
“Today, these topics are reaching the national level, consistent steps are being taken to minimize them. In particular, Ukraine joined the International Initiative “Biarritz Partnership” on gender equality, the President of Ukraine signed the Decree “On Urgent Measures to Prevent and Combat Domestic Violence, Gender Violence”, and the Government approved the State Social Program for the period until 2025 and Plan for urgent measures to prevent and counter domestic violence,” the deputy minister said.
Ekaterina Pavlichenko stressed that the prevention and counteraction of domestic violence is one of the important aspects in the work of both the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the National Police of Ukraine. Through the analysis and use of world best practices, the Ministry has managed to introduce a comprehensive approach to prevent this shameful phenomenon.
“We are working on finding new preventive mechanisms and approaches for even more effective response to cases of domestic violence, and most importantly — the inevitability of punishment for offenders and protection of victims,” said Kateryna Pavlichenko.
The Deputy Minister also said that a key aspect of a sustainable safe environment is to create a safe environment for children.
“In the conditions of the modern world, there are many threats for children: bullying, domestic violence, difficult life circumstances, these problems are especially acutely felt on the demarcation line. All this led to reorienting the activities of juvenile prevention units and bringing them into a separate unit of the NPU structure, which should ensure effective prevention of threats to the safety of children,” noted Kateryna Pavlichenko.
