The United States stands firmly on Ukraine's side in countering Russia's aggression - Christina Quinn
This was said by the Interim US Attorney in Ukraine Christina Quinn during a visit to build a base point for the division and special operations department of the Maritime Guard of the DSU.
It is worth noting that this facility is being created according to the standards of the Coast Guards of the leading countries of the world as part of the implementation of an international project to build the potential of maritime border security.
The purpose of the project is to support the development of the infrastructure and capacity of the Maritime Guard of the State Border Service under the auspices of the Export Control and Border Security Program (EXBS), the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of International Security and Non-Proliferation, U.S. Department of State.
The practical implementation of the project involves the construction and arrangement in Berdyansk and Mariupol of locations and services of units of the Marine Guard — the boat division and special operations departments.
Russia's systematic build-up of its presence in the Sea of Azov, regular provocations of the aggressor country's ship and boat composition against civilian vessels, as well as against the ship and boat composition of the Maritime Guard and the Navy of the Armed Forces continue.
“Let me be frank: by restricting maritime activities in Ukrainian waters, Russia is again trying to undermine the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, in this case at sea. I will also speak frankly about our response: the United States stands firmly on the side of Ukraine, in support of your efforts to counter Russia's aggression,” Christina Quinn said.
“We are equipping military towns of a new type according to modern standards. This will provide a compact and convenient location of the unit and a convenient base of the ship and boat warehouse, thanks to which it will be possible to get the most prompt release of the duty unit to the sea for the performance of official tasks,” said Oleg Kostur, Head of the Regional Department of the Maritime Guard.
The total estimated cost of the project is 4 million US dollars. By July 31 of this year, the work should be completed.
This project will allow the State Border Guard Service to increase the ability to respond to changes in the situation at sea, to intensify the modernization of the system of technical support of the Maritime Guard, and in general to strengthen Ukraine's potential in protecting the state border at sea and Ukraine's sovereign rights in its exclusive (maritime) economic zone.
