Investigators of the National Police announced suspicion of a member of the illegal armed formation “Self-Defense of Crimea”
The police established that in 2014 the former serviceman gave information to the occupiers about the movement of Ukrainian aircraft over the airspace of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. Law enforcement officers detained the defendant on the territory of the Kherson region, he was declared a suspect under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - treason and participation in an illegal armed formation.
According to the head of the Crimean police Vitaliy Strizhak, the former serviceman during February-March 2014, while in the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea, transmitted information to the military of the Russian Federation about the movement of Ukrainian aircraft over the airspace of the peninsula.
In addition, the attacker participated in blocking the territory and runway of the airport in order to prevent the landing of Ukrainian aircraft from the mainland of Ukraine. At the same time, the attacker helped to take Russian military aircraft with the occupiers on board.
He added that the defendant was detained on the territory of the Kherson region. Investigative actions are carried out under the operational support of SBU employees and under the procedural guidance of the Prosecutor's Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city. Sevastopol.
“Currently, the investigators of the Crimean police have declared the attacker suspected of treason and participation in the illegal armed formation of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The offender faces punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to 15 years,” said the head of the Crimean police Vitaliy Strizhak.
