Serhiy Deineko: “There is no more air connection with the Republic of Belarus”
This was stated by the head of the State Border Service of Ukraine during a briefing with the media.
According to him, from 0:00am today (ed. — May 26, 2021) its (ed. — air service with the Republic of Belarus) has been suspended, as in most European countries.
“Neither Belarusian airlines nor any other airlines, whose departure airports are cities on the territory of Belarus, are no longer able to operate flights. We also do not carry out registration of citizens crossing the state border at air checkpoints from Ukraine to any airport of the Republic of Belarus. In fact, we understand that this complicates the lives of conscious citizens, but there is no other way out. I can not say that this will critically affect the entire border infrastructure. Before that, we operated about 80 flights a week, mostly from the airports “Boryspil”, “Kiev”, “Kharkiv”, “Odessa”, “Zaporizhia”, “Lviv” with a total passenger flow of about 6,000 people per week. Over the past year, on the border section shared with the Republic of Belarus, border guards have registered about 1.9 million citizens for entry and exit, so car checkpoints will cope with the predicted load, which may increase due to the closure of air traffic,” Serhiy Deyneko said.
The head of the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine also noted that border guards are guarding the border with both the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus in a strengthened version: “We understand that danger can come from there at any time. Every foreigner or stateless person who crosses the state border to enter Ukraine for tourist purposes, with good intentions, will cross the border freely, in a convenient way, the rest will not be able to do this, because we have certain procedures, such as second line control and every day we do not pass about 100 — 150 foreigners expatriates, mainly citizens of the Russian Federation, who do not enter the territory of Ukraine”.
