Since the reservoirs in Ukraine began to be covered with ice, people began to go out on the ice en masse. Traditionally, such frivolity very often has tragic consequences. Therefore, in order to prevent the increase in the number of dangerous events in winter water bodies, rescuers are intensifying preventive work and reminding citizens of the safety rules in the crisis. In order to convey important information to the public, journalists are also involved in the events.

Thus, on December 24, the rescuers of the capital together with representatives of the media conducted demonstrative and preventive exercises on the ice on the basis of part of the fire and rescue work on water bodies located on the bay of Vovkuvatia, in the Obolonsky district of the city. Such raids are already in time. After all, in the winter of 2021, 5 people died in the reservoirs of the capital, and another eight were rescued. With the fishermen who were sitting on the ice, the specialists of the State Emergency Service conducted an informational conversation and distributed preventive leaflets. Then the rescue divers moved on to the practical part of the exercises. They demonstrated how to help a person who had fallen under the ice. Rescuers also stressed that in all emergency situations, the first and main rule is calm, because panic blocks the mind and makes actions chaotic and uncontrolled.

At the same time, in Kirovograd region, divers and rescuers demonstrated rescue methods on a frozen pond, where the day before, December 23, a schoolgirl almost died in icy water. We are talking about a reservoir in the Ozernaya Balka neighborhood. There, specialists of the special purpose emergency and rescue unit of the State Emergency Service of the State Emergency Service in the Kirovograd region conducted an illustrative study of methods of human rescue. Experts emphasize: everyone can witness such a situation and you should know how to properly save a drowning person without dying yourself. Representatives of Ukrainian and local TV channels were invited to the training.

In addition, on December 24, on the banks of the Dnieper River, in the area of the entertainment complex “Bochka”, in the city of Cherkasy, a briefing on safety during the stay in the water bodies of the region in winter was held. The speaker told the participants of the event statistics on the number of dead and rescued in the reservoirs of the region, and also recalled the basic safety rules.

Precarpathian rescuers, together with workers of the diving and rescue service, conducted a preventive raid near the city lake in Ivano-Frankivsk, which was joined by representatives of the media. Workers of the Rescue Service handed passers-by leaflets with safety rules that must be observed on winter reservoirs. People were also urged not to risk their lives by going out on the treacherous ice. Special attention was paid to adults to monitor the leisure of their children and explain to them the dangers of thin ice.

The workers of the diving and rescue station told and clearly demonstrated how to properly help a person who fell under the ice. In particular, do not panic, but loudly call for help; do not make vigorous, sharp movements in the water, because this accelerates the cooling of the body. You need to spread your arms wide so as not to plunge headlong into the water. When rescuers are near, then clearly follow the commands of rescuers.

When on the surface of the water, do not pile your whole body on a thin part of the ice so that it does not break even more.

Rescuers also demonstrated how to use rescue equipment to save a person who fell under the ice.

In turn, the specialists of the Severodonetsk District Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Luhansk region conducted raids on Lake Pischane in the city of Rubizhne. Emergency workers reminded residents about the dangers of thin ice, told in detail how to determine the strength of ice and not get into a difficult situation. Adults drew attention, which is especially true for children, who often use ice on rivers and lakes as a skating rink. Rescuers also distributed thematic leaflets, which, in particular, explained actions in case of falling under the ice.

In general, preventive and practical work to prevent the death of people on the water in winter is carried out in all regions of the country.

So, dear citizens! Remember that you cannot test the strength of ice with a blow to the foot, but only with a stick. If after the first impact, the ice breaks through and water appears on it, then it is extremely dangerous to go out on the ice.

During fishing, do not punch several holes next to each other, the bins should be located at a distance of 5-6 m from each other.

The safe thickness of ice for one person is at least 7 cm, for a group of people - 15 cm, and for a mass stay of people on the ice, the thickness of the ice should be more than 25 cm.

Also keep an eye on children and do not allow them to be on the ice without adults. Take care of your life and health!
