Results of the border operation “Carpathians 2021": 49 illegal migrants detained
Recently, the Administration of the State Border Guard Service summed up the results of the joint border operation “Carpathians 2021".
In particular, it was noted that during the active phase of the joint border operation “Carpathians 2021", from July 5 to August 20, the service of 727 joint border units with representatives of the National Police, National Guard, State Customs, Migration, Tax Services was organized. Also within the framework of these events, 84 joint patrols of the state border with representatives of the border departments of Romania, Hungary and the Slovak Republic were carried out.
During the operation, law enforcement officers detained 114 violators of the law on border issues, of which 49 were illegal migrants. In addition, the participants of the operation discovered and seized more than 207 thousand packs of smuggled cigarettes.
Also during the operation, a high activity of the use of aircraft by offenders at low and extremely low altitudes was recorded. During the active phase of SPO “Karpaty-2021”, law enforcement officers identified 3 cases of use of drones by offenders, two of which directly during illegal use at the border. In another case, an AN-2 aircraft was detained, which on August 7 breached the border from Romania to Ukraine in the Chernivtsi region and for the interception of which the Air Force raised a MIG-29 aircraft into the air.
During the summing up of the operation, Major General Leonid Baran stressed that the authorities involved in it need to continue to increase the exchange of advance information about possible offenses and strengthen interaction.
Let us remind, SPO “Carpathians 2021" was held in Chernivtsi, Transcarpathian and Ivano-Frankivsk regions. In addition to border guards, representatives of the State Migration, Customs, Tax Services of Ukraine, the National Police, the National Guard, the SBU, the Armed Forces of Ukraine were involved. There was also interaction with border guards of neighboring countries, the European agency “FRONTEX”, Interpol, Europol.
