The police detained on a bribe the head of the pathologo-anatomical department and the doctor of one of the capital's hospitals, who “earned” on the issuance of bodies of the deceased from COVID-19
Money was demanded from relatives of deceased people who had confirmed coronavirus disease (COVID-19), as well as for the provision of services that should be provided free of charge.
Operatives of the Department of Strategic Investigations in the city of Kyiv with law enforcement colleagues exposed the illegal activities of the defendants. The manager and the doctor for “reward” promised to prepare and release the body of the deceased person. In addition, they demanded and received improper benefits from relatives of deceased persons for expediting autopsies, storage of bodies in refrigerated chambers, preparation for burial and other services that, according to the order of the Ministry of Health, should be provided free of charge.
Today, April 13, the head of the pathologoanatomical department and the pathologist were detained while they received another amount of ill-gotten benefits in the order of Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
The pre-trial investigation continues. It is carried out by the investigators of the Metropolitan Police under the procedural guidance of the Kiev City Prosecutor's Office.
Law enforcement officers identify other persons possibly involved in the organization of the corruption scheme, as well as other episodes of their illegal activities.
