Police and border guards have exposed a large-scale scheme of illegal importation of cigarettes from the UAE and other countries into Ukraine — an inspection continues at the Odessa port
According to the documents, the goods were allegedly sold to passengers of flights without paying customs fees through the Duty Free network. In fact, this served only as a cover for the illegal import of tobacco products into the territory of Ukraine with the aim of their further movement to the countries of the European Union.
Operatives of the Department of Strategic Investigations of the National Police together with employees of the State Border Guard Service under the procedural guidance of the Kiev City Prosecutor's Office exposed a large-scale scheme for importing cigarettes from the UAE and other countries into the territory of Ukraine.
Today, April 21, law enforcement officers carry out court-sanctioned activities, in particular inspections, at the terminals of the Odessa Sea Trade Port. So far, 12 containers of cigarettes have been found.
Investigative and operational measures continue within the framework of the pre-trial investigation of criminal proceedings on the grounds of criminal offenses provided for in Part 3 of Art. 212 (evasion of taxes, fees (mandatory payments)) and Part 2 of Art. 364 (abuse of power or official position) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
